Steal her style: Carrie Bradshaw

Fictional character or not, there’s no denying that Carrie Bradshaw earned her place in the hearts of fashion lovers across the globe.

And then there’s her outfits. Sure, some are a little too kooky for downtown Brisbane, but there are still more than a handful of looks I’d replicate or put my own twist on in a heartbeat.

One of my all-time favourite Carrie outfits is from Season 4’s “I heart NY”, in which she discovers Big is leaving New York for Napa Valley and plans a romantic evening which is interrupted when Miranda goes into labour.

From my first viewing I was in love with the whole look; the statement coat over a simple but sexy black dress and those fringed shoes … hello lover!

Over the past few years I’ve slowly found similar pieces that work for me from a LBD and tasselled shoes, to an oversized clutch.

The look then came together this month when I found this amazing Curate by Trelise Cooper duster on Birdsnest.

Adorned with beautifully embroidered flowers and made from a lightweight cotton that’s perfect this time of year, it’s versatile enough to be worn over jeans or dressed up with a cocktail frock and heels for a look worthy of Sex and the City.

OOTD: Curate Star Duster from Birdsnest (find it here) | Kookai Tammy dress (find it here) | Mimco tassel heels (find similar here) | Miss Monogram Victoria large clutch (find it here) | Ray-Ban Wayfarers (find them here).

I swapped stilettos for wedges and my low-cut LBD for this more demure version, and added a belt for a day in the office.
I’d love to know if there’s an outfit from Sex and the City, or another TV show that you’ve been inspired to (or would love to) re-create with your own twist?
