What I wore: Melbourne Cup 2015

Yesterday was the day that stops the nation in Australia as millions of people to came together at workplaces, restaurants and race courses to celebrate the Melbourne Cup—the country’s premier horse racing event.

While I’m yet to make it to Melbourne for the big event, I always try to celebrate somewhere, mostly because I love any excuse to frock up and wear a hat and naturally, yesterday was no different.

Choosing a venue was tougher than choosing an outfit and, after scoping out the events happening around town, Elle and I headed off to the 8th Annual Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Byblos Bar and Restaurant at Portside, lured by the promise of three hours of cocktails.

When it came to my outfit, it was love at first sight (even if it was very fitted for a 33 degree Brisbane day!). I picked up my gorgeous floral Yeojin Bae dress during the mid-year Myer sale and asked Amy from Pink Lane Hats to design a fascinator to match. I topped the look off with nude accessories from Nine West and Sheike and a smooth up style by Elle.

While we didn’t have a win, it was a big day for lots of my ladies in the style stakes with milliner Amy winning Fashions on the Field at Doomben, Jeannette winning Best Hat in her marquee, Jenny picking up a win on the sweep stakes and I walked away with the prize for Best Dressed at Byblos.

It certainly took a few people to make me look the way I did so a big thanks to Elle at Subiaco Ascot for my hair, Taylor at Mecca James Street for make up, Amy at Pink Lane Hats for my divine fascinator and a very big thanks to the amazing Phil Sheen for snapping these photos before I raced off to Portside.
