From the moment I walked through the door to Yard Bird Ale House at Paddington, I knew I’d found what would become one of my favourite date venues.
Not only does it boast a relaxed vibe and friendly staff, but there is indoor and outdoor seating available.
We opted for a table indoors, but with large bi-fold windows at the back of the restaurant, we still caught a nice breeze.
Having recently had dinner at a restaurant where our table was so close to the table next to us that the girl on it and I were touching elbows and she even laughed at one of my date’s jokes, it was great to see the tables were well-spaced out giving everyone a bit of privacy.
Once we’d ordered drinks (a mission in itself given the amazing and extensive list of beers and ciders on offer) we settled down with the menus.
It features the same American-style bar menu as it’s original venue in Fortitude Valley, with the addition of an extended pizza menu, wine list, and a breakfast menu with classics including waffles, bagels, and brekky burgers.
We opted for the Roasted potato pizza (Rosemary, garlic and parmesan) which was like potato bake on a pizza crust, it was THAT amazing and also a Pepperoni (Mozzarella, tomato sauce, Italian pepperoni and oregano) because who can say no to pepperoni? Certainly not me!
We finished it off with the Rocket and Parmesan salad with tomato, red onion and red wine dressing.
The food was delicious (so much so that I had to say yes to taking the leftover pizza home with me despite supposedly being on a diet *cough,cough*) and the company was even better.
I was also given the tip that if your date is going really badly (or perhaps really well), order the Chicken or Buffalo Wings for takeaway because they’re delicious the next day served hot or cold.
