What I Wore for Melbourne Cup 2017

This week, I thought I’d ditch my weekly wrap up of outfits (although you can see them here) in favour of showing off my outfit for Melbourne Cup (yeah, I know, I’m a bit slow sharing it!).

I’ve always loved the excitement that surrounds Melbourne Cup and the opportunity to take a day off work, dress up and head out to lunch somewhere nice, plus I’ll use almost any excuse to wear a hat!

Instead of merely celebrating this year’s Cup, I was asked to MC the event at Brisbane’s Riverbar + Kitchen which meant that I not only needed to look good, but I would also have to stand on stage and speak to hundreds of people.

Public speaking is not one of my better skills and standing on a stage is a little different to making endless Instagram Stories videos, but I said yes and then rallied the troops to come along and be my cheer squad.

In true me style, I had planned three full outfits, right down to shoes and fascinators, for the big day and until it was time to leave the house, I still wasn’t completely sold on which to wear.

In the end, I opted for a flirty little neon number with a floral headband and judging by the compliments I received, it was the big winner on the day—beaten only by a surprise performance by Daryl Braithwaite who dropped by to sing ‘The Horses’ and ‘One Summer’.
